The benefits of charitable giving via endowment funds at the Dickinson Area Community Foundation
The Dickinson Area Community Foundation (DACF) is here to assist a donor in making their charitable intent a reality. We were founded for one purpose–to set up and to be stewards of endowed funds that support this community. It is our mission and all we do, and that sets our organization apart.
DACF Endowment Funds
Endowment funds are a vehicle for someone with charitable intent to leave a legacy for generations to come. When you contribute to a charity, you may not have input into how it's managed or if it is used efficiently.
Whereas donations to endowed funds at DACF are overseen by boards and committees that monitor growth and distribution on an ongoing basis, with appropriate checks and balances in place to make sure what you want to have happen with your money is going to happen forever.
Hypothetically, if you're looking at donating to a nonprofit, you could establish an endowment fund for that nonprofit, and once that endowment fund is established, you will be providing funding for that nonprofit forever. Establishing a donor-advised fund allows your family and future generations to decide where the money goes each year, so we can have as much personal involvement as you would like.
If you really care about a cause in our community, endowment funds make sure the cause has funding for our children and our grandchildren in perpetuity.
Connecting donors with community need
The community foundation not only provides funding via scholarships and grants. We are also extremely engaged in community activities. It's our responsibility to identify community needs and connect them to resources to fill the gap.
Our community engagement, along with our large donor base, enables us to connect donors with organizations or specific needs. By making those connections, the donor with an individual purpose they're looking to give to can realize the need is out there and the organization exists.

We like to ask - what are you most passionate about?
Whether you have the capability to donate a very large gift or even $10, that makes a difference, because $10 times ten is $100. We are the vehicle to make that happen.
We work with you and your advisors to help you make an informed decision, either by matching you with an existing endowment fund or by collaborating to establish a new endowment fund.
If there's a local tot lot in your neighborhood that is falling apart and you want to see that rebuilt, we can set up an endowment fund to make that happen.
